Crosslinks Gap Year Teams go from January to May each year giving you the chance to be involved in many different areas of work and ministry. Teams have been to the Gambia, Thailand, Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya, and are usually made up of up to 10 team members and two team leaders.
WHY BE PART OF A CROSSLINKS TEAM ON YOUR GAP YEAR?
It's a brilliant way to serve God by making Christ known by helping Crosslinks partners overseas. It allows you to explore cross-cultural mission, grow spiritually and learn how to lead bible studies. It's a great way to be equipped and prepare for uni or work and beyond. The real questions is: why not be part of a gap year team?!
WHAT DOES BEING ON A CROSSLINKS GAP YEAR TEAM INVOLVE?
The three focuses of the teams are service, evangelism and discipleship. You'll be serving the local church and communiy, sharing the gospel with those that you meet, and getting involved with ongoing mission activities. As a team you will also work through a bible overview, take part in seminars on various topics, and share in bible studies, eventually leading bible studies yourself. You'll be led by two slightly older leaders who have experience of bible teaching.
WHY GO THROUGH CROSSLINKS?
Crosslinks prizes faithful bible teaching so you'll be placed with experienced bible believing hosts. Crosslinks values volunteers and their contributions highly, so you'll go well prepared and receive support before, during and after your placement. Crosslinks also values partnership so will help keep your church and family and friends informed and get people praying for you.
WHERE DO YOU GO?
It varies, depending on where Crosslinks Mission Partners and contacts are currently based, but recently teams have gone to The Gambia, Thailand, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Ethiopia. Teams' accommodation and itinerary are provided by the local Crosslinks Mission Partners. To learn more about the specific Gap Year Team placements in Jan-May 2018 (applications now open) click here.
HOW LONG DO YOU GO FOR?
January to May (4.5 months)
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
It costs us around £3,500 per person to support you while you carry out your charitable work in a Gap Year Team. This amount covers accommodation, flights, all meals and travel in country, insurance, visas, orientation training and all other pre-travel administration...essentially everything you need, apart from personal spending money and any personal preparation before you leave the UK. We look to all volunteers to raise at least this amount of funds for the society through donations from family, friends, church, your own savings etc before you go.
WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE DO I NEED TO TAKE PART?
Just a belief in the gospel and a willingness to serve and learn. Team members are typically 18 or 19, and all must be resident of Britain or Ireland. If you are a bit older and have experience in pastoral care and teaching the bible to others, you might want to apply as a Team Leader instead of a Team Member.
DO I GET ANY TRAINING AND SUPPORT BEFORE I GO OVERSEAS?
Crosslinks overseas teams from the application stage through to debriefing on return. You'll meet your teammats on a four-day residential orientation before going overseas. During this time you'll receive seminars and infomation on what the bible says about mission, cross-cultural adaptation and communication, and an introduction to your destination, and get advice on travel health, visas and security and physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Practical details like insurance, flights, health screenings, risk assessments and DBS checks are arranged for you.
