Eastern Europe is all the rage at the moment, from films to fairy stories, food to foreign workers in our cities, and not to mention all those new countries coming into the European Union. Eastern Europe, Budapest, is only two and a half hours flight by Easy jet. We know because we have been living here in Serbia for nearly five years.
We work on two fronts. The first is providing practical training for the very small number of Evangelical churches here. We have translated the Marriage Course from Holy Trinity Brompton. We run it ourselves and spend quite a lot of time helping churches to start the course. We visit churches and train lay people and leaders how to lead small groups, how to share their testimony and lead others into a knowledge of Christ and how to work one to one. We have held preaching workshops, DiSC workshops and pre marriage courses. I regularly take small local teams to visit villages where we minister to women. We also press any willing visitor into action, helping with a conference, English language or speaking at the university.
We are greatly encouraged to be working with Chris and Lotta Strajnic. Their knowledge and understanding of the Balkans is invaluable, their commitment to training is a great encouragement. Their language is excellent which means they can do much that we can't in the way of teaching and developing new material. Together we make a great team.
The second front (Robert) is working outside the known rim of the church through photographic exhibitions, linking the creation with the Creator and going out into the wilds with any number of Biology students - many of whom seem to have a natural openness to the gospel through the created order.
We have lead one or two tours, both biking and walking for interested foreigners. These have been been mostly in Western Serbia in the mountains. www.maccurrach.com
We have bought a village farmhouse, see www.stara-moravica.com in northern Vojvodina. We have renovated it and it is now available for visitors to enjoy. The income we receive from visitors is contributing to our budget.
