Prayer letter September 2008
Family
Pete’s mum has had a fall and broken her ankle. This is complicated because of an infected ulcer in the same leg and her arthritis and rheumatism problems which have left her virtually immobile recently. She is in Colchester Hospital and it looks like she will be there for some time. Please pray for her healing, pain management, clearing of infection and home care package to be worked out. We feel a long long way away at times like this. Give thanks for all who are supporting and caring at this time.
Our 3 boys Dan, Dave and Paul are visiting from 10th to 23rd October. We are going off for 5 days to a Thai island – and Pete will have another 4 or 5 days or so off after that here in Bangkok. We are so much looking forward to it.
Ministry
Thailand is hosting the SE Asia Mission Conference this year (the first time it has come out of Singapore. This is a great privilege but also adds extra work to us. Some of the key dates are:
Sunday 5th October our 10.00 am service will also have 25 bishops in attendance and 5 of them Archbishops! Pete is preaching on the place of the local church in mission. (The UK is 6 hours behind and from when you change clocks during October you will be 7 hours behind us here)
Mon 6th We at Christ Church are hosting the Missions Conference welcome service and event. Pete is putting the service together and leading and presiding. There will also be a short presentation on olur ministry to do.
Tues 7th to Thurs 9th – The Missions Conference – being held in a local hotel. There are 150 mission heads and interested organisation delegates coming. On Tues 7th Pete has a presentation to do on the mission and needs of Christ Church followed by 2 one and half hour workshops. The rnext few days will be attending other presentations, networking and a number of side meetings. Please pray for good connections and ‘God appointments’
Children’s and Youth Work. Our children’s and youth work is out growing Ineke’s experience. We have around 120 under 16’s registered and around 80 attending each week. We really need a trained full time worker for this ministry which has massive potential. Pray for the call for help Peter is going to make at the Mission Conference and the release of a worker.
Pray for energy and for Peter managing the demands of such a busy church with such diverse needs.
We are interviewing for a Administrator / Office Manager on interviews 29th October. Please pray for the right appointment.
Harry and Deanne Iedama come to join us for 6 months at the end of October and will be overseeing our Karen ministry. Please pray for a quick settling into the role.
New sermon series. After our break with the boys Pete is starting a key sermon series on the Kingdom of God – going right up to Christmas time. Pray that this would be significant in releasing faith and ministry and growth in the church.
Thailand Politics. Please pray for the stability of the Thai governmental system. All is quiet at the moment but rumours of another coup are never far away. Things do not get dangerous other than around parliament areas and we are no where near those.
Why not look up our website which has a had a makeover (and some parts are still under construction) www.christchurchbangkok.org
